8 Must Have Tips for Creating Google Adwords

By Barbara Zaccone

Google AdWordsGoogle Adwords is Google's advertising program that allows businesses to advertise on Google and its ad partners. AdWords ads are displayed along with search results on Google, as well as on search and content partner sites. One of the best features of the program is the control the advertiser has on their budget and placement. There is no minimum budget to get started so you can spend $50 a month or $5,000 a month. The advertiser only pays when the ad is clicked. A nominal activation fee of $5.00 will get you started. What most businesses don't realize, is that creating campaigns without careful attention to keyword selection and ad copy, can burn through your budget without getting qualified traffic to your site in no-time.

Google AdWords InfoWe looked at one client who sold art supplies and had selected the keyword “portfolio”. He was thinking artist portfolio. Needless to say the term he selected was too general and had multiple meanings, which just wasted his advertising investment. It wasn't until after we rewrote his keywords and ad copy that he finally received qualified traffic for his advertising investment. We have another client who has an online store for designer baby and children's clothing. They were purchasing phrases like “high quality clothing” and “stylish clothing” and paying close to $1.00 per click. Once again poor use of their valuable advertising dollar. Just by changing their keyword advertising strategy we were able to increase their sales by 2,000%.

These tips will help you whether you are a new Google AdWords advertiser or want to put your existing ads to the test:

Tip #1

Repeat your keywords in you ad copy. Keywords in ad copy are displayed in bold so searchers can quickly see which ads are most relevant.

Tip#2

Make sure the destination URL is relevant to the search term. If you were an industrial manufacture of plumbing supplies and were advertising sinks, the destination URL should be the Sink page on your site and not the home page.

Tip#3

Advertise a benefit. If you offer free shipping or discounts mention that in your ad.

Tip#4

Take advantage of capitalization. “Google AdWord Set-up & Specialist” looks better and appears larger than “Google adword set-up and specialist”.

Tip#5

Use a strong call to action statement, like Free Estimates, Request a Quote, Browse, Order, and sell.

Tip#6

Create multiple ads for an ad group and test them so you can see which ones are more effective. Best of all Google will automatically display the best performing ad.

Tip#7

Combine your ad campaigns with conversion goals. A goal can be a sale, sign-up form or inquiry form. Armed with this information you can quantify your ads performance.

Tip #8

Unless you have strong brand recognition do not use your company name or website domain in the first line of ad text. Save those valuable characters for compelling copy.

Business Uses of Twitter

By Barbara Zaccone

Not only do you have to update your web site, write to your blog, but now you have to Tweet. If you don't know about Twitter this little simple piece of technology has allot of businesses talking about how to use it. That sounds like putting the cart before the horse.

The easiest way to explain Twitter; One you sign-up and have your Twitter page you answer the question "What are you doing right now?" and the messages (Tweets) that you send have to be 140 characters or less.

According Adam Denison, General Motors' Social Media Communications specialist GM has been using Twitter since January. According to a blog post on Business Week GM was tweeting during the North American International Auto Show in Detroit from press conferences so people not at the show could see what was being said real-time.

EMC Corporation pushes out news releases to anyone who follows EMC in the media so they can keep track of the latest developments.

Basking Robins used Twitter to announce its second annual 31 Cent Scoop Night, an event providing consumers with a great deal and honoring America's fire service community.

Like all social media networking tools Twitter is all about building a fan base and participating in a community for the benefit of all.
