Google Recommends Responsive Website Design

By | NJ Web Design, North Jersey Web Design, Responsive Website Design | No Comments

For over a year now BZA has been building only responsive design websites for clients.  Google, in their Webmaster help section on optimizing websites for mobile use, recommends responsive design as a best practice. How does it work? Before your website is displayed, a query is made to determine the device and the actual screen size. Once that is determined your website is displayed perfectly to fit the screen. Whether it’s an iphone, Android, tablet or mini tablet your visitors will have the optimal viewing experience.

A Single Site Approach with Responsive Website Design can Improve Search Engine Ranking

Here is an excerpt from Google’s help page for webmasters in the “Building Smartphone-Optimized Websites” section:

“Google recommends webmasters follow the industry best practice of using responsive web design, namely serving the same HTML for all devices and using only CSS media queries to decide the rendering on each device.”

“Sites that use responsive web design, i.e. sites that serve all devices on the same set of URLs, with each URL serving the same HTML to all devices and using just CSS to change how the page is rendered on the device. This is Google’s recommended configuration.”

The single URL approach helps Google assign indexing properties for the content. Load time is reduced because no redirects are needed, and it saves resources for your site and Google’s crawlers. There is no doubt that this can assist your site’s search ranking.
